Rumors for Eddie Sutton and Jessie Evans replacements at USF (San Francisco)

The CBS station is reporting a list of five coaches to replace the Jessie Evans and Eddie Sutton coaching duo at USF. We hope the AD and whoever else was involved in this badly managed situation will be fired as well. This was really bad for USF and the WCC - with the way it was handled.

The list of five names rumored to be possibilities includes two current assistants, in former UCLA point guard Cameron Dollar (with Romar at Washington), and former Eastern Washington and Utah head coach Ray Giacoletti currently an assistant and close friend of the GoneZaga program.

The list also includes two NBA'ers, Bill Cartwright and Eric Musselman, and of course the obligatory listing of Steve Lavin, since he is from NoCal and could probably be a good fit at USF.

Mike Montgomery, the former Stanford coach, and current TV analyst, was not included in the list.

Saint Mary's punishes Eddie Sutton for getting a WCC coach fired

Sure it was just a conference game, but I'm sure the WCC coaches were not particularly thrilled with the way Eddie "The Loser" Sutton conspired with the Jesuits of USF to get their current coach fired mis-season and take over the program. No wonder St Mary's blew out the USF Dons at their own home court up at the hill top.

Why would the WCC coaches be upset with this? Because they could be next! Other than Mark Few, none of the other WCC coaches are big names, so if a big name coach decides he wants back in, they could get fired mid-season!

The Eddie "The Loser" Sutton situation established a bad precedence. Imagine if Mike Montgomerry expressed interest in a WCC. The AD could use the Eddie Sutton situation, and get the coach fired and install MM.

Speaking of MM, he had an interesting interview with Eddie "The Loser" Sutton, stuck at 799. As expected, Sutton tried to cover up his unethical return to coaching. In the first part of the interview, he said he couldn't sit at home and then had to return to coaching. Then he mentioned that he's only at USF for the remainder of the season, and after that he's going to go back to his "other" projects. At least the politicians have a group of professional liars assistants to help them get their stories straight :)

Eddie "The Loser" Sutton: Call it Karma, Divine Justice and Nemesis all in one

We already expressed our strong opinions on the way Eddie "The Loser" Sutton stumbled back into the coaching seat this season.

Well, a few weeks later, we are pleased with the results! The notorious loser, drunkard and cheater is still winless. Now that's what I call karma, divine justice and nemesis all combined together! Winless! Take that Eddie Loser Sutton!

Are we harsh on him? Yes we are. For someone who aspires to be a hall of famer, and has a checkered past, the last thing he needed to do is conspire with the USF administration to get rid of their current coach mid-season.

The Notorious Eddie Sutton

Yes, he is back! Eddie Sutton has not met a gray area he didn't like. From the boozing to the cheating and now to the "in-season firing of another coach". Class act Eddie Sutton. I guess 800 matters more than anything else, doesn't it? Class act loser!

This is not the first time San Francisco tempted an almost-hall-of-fame coach. When Gene Keady was pushed out (oops! retired) at Purdue, the USF Dons tempted him to coach for them. Keady was very tempted but there was an intervention by former players and assistants and friends to prevent him from tarnishing his legacy.

And while Eddie Sutton has every right to make a comeback, the way he made the comeback is what is the big stinker. And given Sutton's past transgressions, this surely rules out Hall of Fame consideration for this cheater-loser.

Firing a coach mid-season is a no-no in college sports, and despite all the pressures of winning, even high-pressure BCS schools haven't fired a basketball coach in mid-season. Of all the teams to do that, a small Jesuit school in a mid-major conference. Yes, we understand USF, you want to return to the glory days of the 50s, and I'm sure you are pissed that nearby St Mary's is doing much better, and GoneZaga has become a national darling. But why not do that in the off-season?

USF took advantage of the Lute Olson leave-of-absence story to piggy-back on that and send Jessie Evans to a "leave of absence". Well this may not be bad for Jessie Evans - Arizona has an opening for an assistant at the moment!

Eddie the Cheater-Loser Sutton has found a new assistant too: Robert McCullum.

A lot of websites and analysts are either avoiding the issue or giving Eddie Sutton a pass. At least Len Elmore called him and USF out for doing what we all know they did: They fired Jessie Evans mid-season in order to get Eddie Sutton and get into the record books and create buzz around their miserable program.

I hope USF does not win a single game with Eddie Sutton as a head coach! :-)
