Coaching Carousel - an update!

Just like any good reality show, the Coaching Carousel has many twists and turns. Once upon a time on the way out, Mike Davis has delivered a solid Indiana season and team so far. He may go from Hot Seat to Nice Extension. Quinn Snyder is also off the Hot Seat at least for now after a solid Big 12 showing. But if he does get fired, he will do well with hair styling product endorsements.

Still on the hot seat: Orr @ Seton Hall, Evans @ ASU, "Adam" Kennedy @ Cincy (interim).

The Seat is getting Hot: Ernie Kent @ Oregon, Monson @ Minnesota, Collier @ Nebraska, Triangle Offense @ Kansas State

One rumor: Skip Prosser realizes what Dave Odom did: Being the 4th team in the Triangle sucks. So he bolts for Cincinatti, Belein takes over at Wake Forest, where the high SAT scores help him find players that fit his system, while Bob Huggins returns to West Virginia along with former West Virginia natives OJ Mayo and Billy Walker. Clark Francis of hoopscooponline has been on the Huggins-WestVirginia bandwagon for a while now. Belein's seniors are graduating, his son also graduating, so this is as good as any time for him to bolt out of West Virginia. No ripple effects from this one as the circle closes.

These days I'd say Wake is the third team in the triangle. Sure, pumping out 8,000 farmers a year gives NC State a larger fan base, but Wake gets more attention in the national media.

I haven't lived in the Triangle, so I was only commenting as a remote viewer of the situation. Program-wise NC State is doing better in Wins/Losses and recruiting-wise than Wake in the after-Paul era. Wake without Chris Paul is not as hot of a name.

I was not aware of the 8,000 farmers at NC State :-) That was funny although some NC State fans may object to that.

You make some interesting points in your website about coaches struggling after their big-time superstars left for the NBA. I also think that Downey's contributions to the team were underappreciated. If Skip Prosser prepared a replacement for Downey last year, Wake would have been doing a lot better this year.

You also make a good point on the defensive co-ordinator. Is it a coincidence that in the 2nd year of Larry Shyatt (sp?) Florida is playing well? I'm sure part of it is the departure of the prima donnas of last year (Walsh, Roberson) who probably didn't buy into Shyatt's defense. Perhaps Skip could also benefit from hiring a seasoned defensive-minded elder statesman as his deputy. It is a popular trend these days and one with results (eg Calhoun and Blaney).
