Mid-Week Update

  • The Derrick Caracter soap continues. Not only Caracter is back on campus, he also played a few minutes against Marquette on Monday. It looks like Pitino has a hard time letting go of players he himself removes from the program. A recent example, Terrence Farley's "dismissal" a couple of years ago.
  • Don't forgot to check the multi-color fishwrap (Jim Rome's term for USA Today) every Tuesday. It features college basketball stories and commentary from the one and only Dick Vitale!
  • It looks like J.P Prince is going to Tennessee after all, not Vandy.
  • Onions Award: Tre Kelley of South Carolina
  • For years the Ben Howland - Jamie Dixon Experiment at Pitt was having great regular seasons but not a lot of success in the NCAAs considering their regular season record and NCAA Tourney seed. But last year Ben Howland made it all the way to the NCAA Final. The difference? NBA-caliber talent!. The Pitt teams of Howland/Dixon have exactly zero NBA players. The UCLA Final Four team had Farmar, Afflalo (projected NBA talent), along with Steve Lavin's Cedric Bozeman and Ryan Hollins (currently in the NBA).
  • The new ESPN Gameday TV spots are funny but nowhere near as funny as the North Carolina Cafeteria. The two new commercials are dorm-themed with the Gameday four-some moving into the dorms.

    SEEN on TV segment
  • ESPN's Student Spirit Week is in full force! But they also featured Kentucky Super Fan Bob Wiggins. He has followed Kentucky basketball for 54 years and watched 1368 games in person! (Kentucky at South Carolina game on ESPN). Now that's what I call a fan!
  • UAB's Mike Davis "Pimp My Ride" team bus, featured on CSTV. A luxurious bus for the team travels as they prefer that over chartered flights for their C-USA road games.

    What makes a game unwatchable
If you are not emotionally invested in the outcome of a game (eg fan or hater of either team), a combination of these factors makes a game unwatchable:
  • turnovers that don't lead to fastbreaks
  • too many calls
  • not a lot of ball movement
  • "giving the ball a headache" dribblers
  • slow pace
  • jittery/nervous fast pace
  • containment defense
  • etc, etc, etc
