Winningest Active Coaches in NCAA men's basketball
Since there are no more games until November, it's pretty certain the records will remain the same :-)
The Dirty Rat will probably catchup and pass Lute Olson, as he has been chipping away at the gap for a while now... The battle between the Jims will be interesting to watch as UConn will be one year older and Syracuse will be reloading... In all likelihood, Knight will reach/pass 900, Lute Olson and the Dirty Rat will probably reach/pass 800, and Huggins will reach/pass 600.
Is it November yet? :-)

What behavior, or action, deems Coach K a "Rat"? I'm not a big Coack K fan, but I'm curious as to the origons of your nickname for him.
Well, I did not come up with the nickname "The Rat" for Coach K, but I like it and it seems fitting :)
I first heard it on Jim Rome a few years ago. I don't know if it was one of Rome's original creations or he picked it up from somewhere else.
I do not know its origins, although now I am curious too to find out how he got that (deserving) name.
Winningest active coaches means very little. We do we even bother touting this award at all?
You can have a very high number of games win if you just happen to be coaching for a long number of years.
That is a very good point. Also, a factor, who they played!
That's why I'm advocating that coaching records should also include an RPI/SOS, so we'll know the quality of their wins, not just the number of wins.
With the expanded schedule these days, it's not that hard to get to 20 wins with a mediocre team that won't even make it to the NIT/CBI.
The formula is simple, all home games, including a four-team exempt tourney at home. Then all you need is a .500 or below season in-conference and you got your 20 wins!
Coach K is going to win 25 games or more at Duke every year, so in about three years plus this one, Coach K will pass Bobby Knight and will be the most winningest coach in NCAA basketball history. Coach K has shown that he is a winner and not a "rat".
A winning rat :-) When he gets most (if not all) the calls when the games are tight or at times when the games are decided, he sure can pile up those "Ws".
It's not like he "risks" playing games he can lose outside the conference :-)
Think you need to look at the records as Bob Knight will be passed this year by a coach by the name of Dan Myers at Northern State Univ..in Aberdeen South Dakota....
