The Blogosphere Files

Yes basketball fans the exhibition part of the season has tipped off! And for those of you with television sets, there will be a couple of games tomorrow (Sunday) on Fox College Sports as Arizona hosts Concordia and Kentucky hosts Seattle (no, not the SuperSonics, but the D2 powerhouse). Also those of you with access to the regional FSN package on satellite may be able to get those and a few more games assuming they are not blacked out in your region. For more details, check our weekly tv schedule.

The Blogosphere Files

  • College Hoops Heaven interviews the one and only, Hall of Famer, John Chaney.
  • More interviews, Storming the Floor sits down with the Mid-Majority Repor(t)'s Kyle Whelliston for an interesting interview.
  • Yocohoops is busy with some interesting extracurricular activities.
  • A Sea of Blue has a detailed preview of the Seattle (at UK) exhibition game that we mentioned earlier, a discussion of the Bloggers Top 25 Blog Poll, and a recap and analysis of the Pikeville game, Billy G's first semi-official game as the new head coach. We also get a "where are they now" on Ketih Boggans.
  • Some disappointing news for Marquette fans as Trevor Mbakwe will miss the entire season due to injury. There, at Cracked Sidewalks, we learn that the 2008 McDonalds game will be hosted at The Bradley Center in Milwaukee.
  • The CAA Hoops blog scouts a couple of scrimmages and has some promising news for VCU fans as they take a first look at their new 6'9" freshman forward.
  • The SEC Hoops GBD blog has a nice recap of all the SEC teams exhibition games so far predictions of upcoming regular season games by SEC teams, and the not-so-shocking news that Duke Crews was re-instated just before we crossed into November. Now that's a shocker :) Not so good news for Auburn however as they lose a player to injury and another one to "issues". Read on to the SEC GBD blog for the details.
  • March to Madness selects some must-see-TV college hoops games and with the looming tv writers strike, we may get a few more basketball fans watching the games instead of pre-packaged sitcoms and dramas. March to Madness also makes a case for Nevada. They also discuss the Indiana PhoneGate scapegoat (no, not Kelvin 500 Sampson).
  • Duke truthiness at TAD. And if you pay close attention to this image, you will discover the true grades of Duke basketball players, not the ones Coach RatCase K weasels out for them ;-)
  • Detailed coverage of the proposed new arena at Lexington at the Wildcats Thunder blog, along with a recap on the recruiting situation at UK, and a ceremony honoring the UK 1957-58 NCAA Championship Team.
  • The Morris twins find a new (temporary?) home, a recap of the Eddie Griffin challenge, the coaches poll and more at College Hoops Heaven.
  • The West Coast Basketball blog (aka Plissken at the Buzzer) looks at the student athletes, eligibility and finances, with the Brook Lopez situation as an example.
  • Ouch to the Izzo! Details at Rush the Court. Also there, a detailed look at what ESPN Full Court is planning to do with your $100,
  • La Rev joins in the voices asking for some sense between ESPN and the cable providers, since ESPNU carries a big nubmer of college hoops games but it's not available in many places. Memo to Comcast and ESPN: Time for some common sense.
  • Regular readers of NHT our familiar with our crusade to get ESPNU on Comcast and other cable systems. So far our Crusade has not left the coast of Britain ;-)
  • Making the Dance has a story on those who want to be college coaches. Personally, I'll take the salary and the endorsements and leave the coaching to the assistants ;-)
  • Lots of updates on the Zags blog (no relation to Gonzaga), including Vivian Stringer still angry at Don Imus. It appears I'm not the only one with a crusade :)

    2007-2008 Season Previews
  • The conference previews continue at Rush the Court with the Big West, SoCon, The Summit (League) and lots more.
  • The previews keep marching on at March Madness All Season, with the Pac-10, Big (y)East, SEC, ACC and tons more.
  • Storming the Floor looks at Winthrop, Tennessee, the Pitino Cardinals, and more.

Inside the NCAA Hoops Today blog
  • What should you get? A TiVo? A DVD recorder? A DVR from your cable or satellite provider? All of them? None of them? Here are some thoughts.
  • The perfect gift for the hardcore hoops is an official NCAA DVD of their favorite team winning an NCAA tournament game! Or is it?
  • Gigantic season preview of links
  • Scouting games from 2006-2007 in preparation for 2007-2008.

    Calhoun wrote a book
Among our busy-iness we forgot to mention this but Jim Calhoun has written another book that is published to coincide with the start of the new college basketball season. The book is titled A Passion to Lead: Seven Leadership Secrets for Success in Business, Sports, and Life, co-authored by Jim Calhoun and Jr., Richard Ernsberger (Hardcover - Oct 2, 2007). The hardcover is $16.50 at Amazon and eligible for free shipping with orders over $25. To jump over $25, you can send an online gift card to yourself (or someone else) for the remaining amount, or load up on a few high quality DRM-free MP3s from Amazon. The book is 288 pages long.

    Just so ya know...

My post was not on the exhibition games, it was predicting next week's games. Kinda important difference...ha.

LOL - no worries. You're doing an excellent job, and I appreciate the link over. I'm actually about to recap all of the exhibition games thus far, also. Keep up the good work!
