The Perfect Gift for the Duke fan

I know I have been very critical of Coach K and Duke basketball in the past, but in an attempt to be fair and balanced, today I have a great gift idea for Duke fans of all ages. The perfect seasonal gift for Duke fans. A very affordable gift, a DVD full of fond and pleasant memories to be cherished for years to come by Duke fans, past, present and future. I cannot praise Coach K and Duke basketball enough, so be sure to visit this website for more Duke stories.

Post draft non-analysis attempt #2

  • Biggest surprises of the NBA draft according to CHN
  • Fox Sports draft tracker (they forgot to turn off the 60 second updater). Hello, the draft is over!
  • Was Billy Donovan banned from the NBA Draft? Or did he really have plane problems?. You decide :)
  • Gary Parrish breaks down the NBA draft by conference in his blog,
  • The Hoopinion blog analyzes this year's NBA draft team by team and compares and contrasts Julian Wright vs Nick Young.
  • Historical perspective from DeCourcy's blog
  • Backstory on Jared Jordan's selection by the Clippers by Dick Hoops Weiss. Jared Jordan's father is Michael Jordan. But not the Michael Jordan.
  • TAD (Truth about Duke) looks at the draft position of Josh Mecha-Roberts. (Mecha as in being mechanical, also an homage to an old South Park episode).
  • Sportsline.com's post-draft coverage
  • Post-draft coverage from an ACC perspective at the ACC Basketblog.
  • Yahoo Sports draft analysis and thoughts and such
  • Staying in school paid off for Acie Law the 4th according to Andy Katz
  • Top prospects for the 2008 NBA draft according to ESPN
  • Chad Ford grades the teams
  • Draft review also at College Hooops Net (CHN)
  • Adam Stanco's draft blog at CHN
  • CSTV analysis of the draft

  • Weekend update (reorganized)

  • I am clearly behind on catching up with the latest news. If only there were 34 hours in a day :-)
  • Four college basketball game repeats this Sunday July 1st 2007 on Fox College Sports featuring teams mid-major teams from North East/New York. Details in the weekly TV schedule post
  • How many SEC students does it take to change a light bulb?

    2007-2008 season
  • Speaking of A Sea of Blue, they continue their six-part series previewing the upcoming 2007-2008 SEC season with Vandy and Georgia
  • The Summit League grows taller and longer and bigger. If the name sounds unfamiliar, think of the Mid-Continent conference with the addition of North and South Dakota State and IPFW
  • CHN's preseason top 50, version II
  • Don't look now but the 144-part series of previews at CHN has already began! Yes folks, the 144 reviews are already in progress! And who is #144 you ask? Not the Oakland Raiders. No, not the Raiders, but the Grizzlies!
  • A very quick preview of the preview of the upcoming Blue Ribbon preview of the CAA at the CAA Hoops blog
  • Lots of other news at CSTV including the 2007-2008 UCLA basketball schedule,
  • Marshall picks up some of the Zags magic as they get P-Mac as a transfer. P-Mac is short for Pierre Marie Altidor Cespedes (I did not cut/paste folks, I typed it all in!). P-Mac was grandfathered in the now doomed (and deemed free agency rule) that was rescinded. But he petitioned and he was grandfathered in so he will be eligible to play in 2007-2008, his final year of eligibility. As you may have guessed from the name, P-Mac is from Montreal of Canada. New head coach Donnie Jones (former Florida assistant) is stockpiling talent and hopes to take advantages of the vacuum of power at the top of Conference USA behind the Calipari Experiment and the loaded UAB squad.

    Coaches
  • Was Billy Donovan banned from the NBA Draft? Or did he really have plane problems?. You decide :) Goodman also blogs about Gillispie getting things done at Kentucky, and the coaching carousel at Coastal Carolina and New Mexico State
  • The hiring of PitinoVille assistant Marvin Menzies at New Mexico State is talked about by Fox Sports and Sportsline and Yahoo Sports and ESPN. Menzies promises to stay at Las Cruces for a long time. The implied assumption is: "long time (unless a better job opens up)".
  • Does this open the door for Pitino's son to get a promotion? Not so fast! A Sea of blue discusses the emergence of former Pitino and Kentucky star Walter McCarty as an assistant. Looks like it is official. ESPN story and USA Yesterday story.
  • Latest posts from the Hoops Coach blog talk about winning, difference makers and IQ + character.

    Everything else
  • The NCAA will revisit the text messaging rule. Perhaps Blackberry, Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and such had a talk with Myles Brand? :-)
  • And now some sad news. Racial slurs were slipped into the offices of the coaching staff at Ball State. This is the 21st century but sadly a lot of people are stuck centuries behind. The racists used recent NCAA violations by the coaching staff as an excuse. It's one thing to complain about a coach having NCAA violations and it's a totally different thing to resort to racial slurs and leaving notes in such a manner. Everybody check your calendars, this is the 21st century!
  • Latest news on the Air Force basketball program but also the Mountain West conference in general at The Friends of Air Force Basketball website. They also have a very nice list of college hoops links
  • The NCAA rejects two proposals for drug-testing. They probably know what the results will be and wouldn't like that outcome :-)
  • The Phog Blog says that the Big 12 is planning to move its conference championship game from Sunday to Saturday, and the final will move to the Sprint Center in KC starting in 2009-2010. The former was probably done in response to the timing of the NCAA selection cmte selections.

    Post draft non analysis

A rather interesting NBA draft it was, with Mike Tricco being the point guard, with Stephen A. Smith, Jay Bilas, and Marc Jackson on the wings. Off the bench came Andy Katz, Rick Buecher (sp?), Lisa Salters (sp?), and Paolo San Antonio. I am not sure if Jim Gray counts as a Lakers employee or an ESPN reporter :)

More on this later today... In the meantime, here is a bundle of NBA draft related links to stories.

And no, I'm not in-line for an Apple iPhone. No, I'm not writing this while waiting in line for the Apple iPhone! (like I would pay $600 for a frakking cell phone :)

And thanks for the link to Iktmmedia.com/UK, and No More Spin Sports blog.

On the coaching carousel front the Godfather has installed yet another one of his assistants at New Mexico State. First it was Reggie "TV coach" Theus, now it's MM (I can't spell his name off the top of my head). More on this later as well.

On the blogging front it was exciting that this blog made the Google Trends web-page yesterday for the TV schedule posts covering the NBA Draft.

All five classic Rocky films in one set are $19.99 for today only at Amazon, while supplies last. The Rocky Anthology: All 5 of the Classic Films, typically priced $35, today only they are selling for $20. (Free shipping if your total order is $25 or more).

  • What are you least favorite things when it comes to college hoops asks A Sea of Blue.
  • Certainly one of those for a lot of people is anything that has to do with Coach K, aka the Dirty Rat, aka Coach Dracula K. The CAA Hoops blog talks about Coach K and his ...fragile team.
  • Memo to Jerry Collangelo: Time to start looking for a real coach. Or perhaps have the ACC/NCAA take over FIBA basketball because that's the only way Coach K can be effective ;-)

    Quick update

  • TV listings for the NBA draft and college basketball in general are posted in a couple of posts below.
  • Today's post by Goodman features Bob McKillop at Camelot (Davidson), trade talks in the NBA, and Billy the Diva making an appearance at MSG for the NBA draft
  • I have updated the links to other basketball links and websites in the left-hand column of the blog. Be sure to check some of the websites linked that cover various facets of college hoops.

  • Goodman also looks at the next season prospects for Oklahoma, Southern Illinois and Rice.
  • Preseason top 25 by Fox Sports
  • A Sea of Blue opines on this Coach Dracula K story. The story in question by Jim Young appeared in a Greensboro, NC newspaper. Members of the media were allegedly cheering when VCU was beating Duke in the NCAA tournament. I'm starting to like the media. Although it turns out m ost of the cheering was done by a VCU graduate who was a camera man. So much for that Dookies! :-) After reading that story I will be more kind and gentle to Coach K. I will not call him Dirty Rat or Coach Dracula K, or Coach Krapola today or say that he drains the lifeforce out of his players and by the time they are seniors they look like they are 35 year old. I promise I will not say that today!!!
  • Wall to wall coverage on the latest diva outburst by his Holiness Coach K at the excellent Truth about Duke website.

  • Want to watch some of the high profile AAU summer ball without traveling? the HSBNetwork offers webcasts of a number of those games.
  • Coffee seems to be a popular beverage among coaches.
  • Beyond the Arc thinks that the Hoyas are the team to beat in 2007-2008.
  • Gary PArrish's blog looks at Alabama and Oklahama State.

  • DeCourcy's blog at Sporting News talks about Mike Conley's shooting, ageless Yi Jianlian's prospects in the NBA draft.
  • Do you think you figured it all out? Done with the 2007 NBA draft? Then start thinking about the 2008 NBA draft. CSTV's Bryan Graham's mock draft for 2008 has OJ Mayo projected as #1. Will that really happen?

    New News
  • Nevada extends Mark Fox for three years, through 2014. He has to pay a quarter million dollars if he bolts out before July 2011.
  • An NCAA food-related violation that does not include Rick Majerus? It involves Colorado. They were apparently undercharging athletes for meals. Oh NCAA, can you please stop nitpicking and start tackling the real problems of college athletics?. But of course it's easier to nitpick on sandwiches, and whether two scoops of ice-cream are an NCAA violation, or a Subway sub with double meat is a violation, rather than dealing with the real issues... This was a "major" violation with a $100,000 fine that will go to feed the homeless. Football lost one scholarship but that's about it.
  • Basketball championship, then football championship, then basketball championship means only one thing: The AD is getting a big raise. An 11-year deal of up to $1.2 million per year, nearly doubling his previous pay.

The Big Ten Network is coming soon (August 2007)

  • The Big Ten Network is going live in August 2007. So far they have agreements to be carried by DirecTV and AT&T nationally and by cable providers in Big 10 cities and states.
  • ESPN favorite Dave Revsine has been hired to be the studio host
  • The BTN (Big Ten Network) will carry more than one hundred (100) men's college basketball games next year
  • If more than one game is taking place at the same time, they will be shown by local cable providers on the "overflow" channels. (eg the least popular tv shopping channel in each cable system)
  • Some of the games (football and basketball) will be broadcast in High Definition (HD).
  • They will include coaches shows, and archived games from the past
  • Sad news however for ESPN Full Court and ESPN Plus viewers: The Big Ten Network games will not be available on ESPN Full Court and ESPN Plus.
  • Already the network had a war of words with Comcast as Comcast called them "2nd and 3rd tier"
  • BTN wants their channel to be made available on standard cable for Big Ten cities and states and as generally available as possible nationwide.
  • The network is in association with Fox Sports.
  • Here is one idea: Perhaps in areas without BTN availability, Fox may do the smart thing and carry those games on their Fox College Sports channels. (this is only my opinion, but I hope it gets implemented)
  • Since there are eleven teams in the Big Ten, I now officially rename this channel to BEN (Big Eleven Network).
  • I'm sure BTN (oops! BEN) would have been ecstatic if Greg Oden stayed for another year. But regardless, Thad Matta is making the Big 10 cool to watch again (well, at least the Ohio State games). Good luck enjoying Tom Izzo and Kelvin Sampson slugfests.
  • Coaches, there's still time to change your plans for 2007-2008. More fun, more run, more gun and less slugfest, less wrestling, less scortched earth and less grinding. Coaches, pay close attention, I have been undefeated since I started this blog, so I must know what I'm talking about ;-)

  • Sunday OTL looks at Title 9 (IX) and Portland picking #1 in the NBA draft

  • Sunday's Outside the Lines will air on Sunday June 24, 2007 at 930am ET/ 630am PT on ESPN.
  • Billboards reading, "Honk once for Oden. Honk twice for Durant," illustrate the latest buzz and debate in Portland. With only a 5.3% chance, the ping pong balls bounced Portland's way last month at the NBA draft lottery, giving them the No. 1 draft pick. Now, the team commonly referred to as the "Jail Blazers," for their spate of bad behavior in the past decade, is looking for a chance to return to the glory days of 1977 when Coach Jack Ramsay, Bill Walton and Maurice Lucas won the city its first NBA championship. General Manager Kevin Pritchard is preparing to make arguably the most important decision in franchise history, Kevin Durant or Greg Oden? There is concern that history doesn't repeat itself, because in 1984, Portland took Sam Bowie with the number two pick, leaving Michael Jordan behind. Sunday on Outside the Lines, Mark Schwarz reports on the decision surrounding the number pick, and the rekindled spirit of the Portland faithful. Also on the show, NCAA President Myles Brand calls it an expenditure race in college athletics. Thirty-five years ago this weekend, Title IX, the watershed civil rights legislation aimed at gender equity in education and sports, was signed into law. While there's no denying the effect Title IX has had on increased participation for female athletes, the question many have is, at what cost? Schools have often dropped smaller men's programs in order to comply. But now Brand, among others, says schools are using Title IX as a scapegoat when they have other financial and philosophical reasons to make athletic department cuts. Outside the Lines' Steve Delsohn examines the law and how it's impacting athletic departments 35 years later. Bob Ley hosts.

Happy Birthday Pistol Pete (would have turned 60 today)!

Thanks to author Wayne Federman for the reminder: Pistol Pete Maravich would have turned 60 today, Friday June 22, 2007. Wayne wrote the book "Maravich". Official website of his book at MaravichBook.com.

More on Pistol Pete: A great mix of Pistol Pete highlights on YouTube.com. Wayne has also been interviewed by NPR. And the one and only Bill Walton talks about Maravich. For those in or near Los Angeles, the author Wayne Federman will be having a book signing, discussion and Q&A on Tuesday June 26, at 730pm (pacific time) at the Barnes and Noble at the Grove.

  • What was Memphis missing from its last couple of teams? Perhaps a super star? Gary Parrish walks (!) and talks with super frosh Derrick Rose. A three-page story along with a video segment. Rose is one and done talent-wise, but his addition to an already loaded and talented Memphis team could be the difference between a Final Four and another Elite 8. Rose means that Calipari will get even more air time next season (if that's possible). But kidding aside, Derrick Rose will probably be a very efficient and effective player from day one at Memphis. I am officially on the bandwagon, which will probably jinx them ;-)
  • Goodman's blog looks forward to the 2007-2008 UCLA team and specifically Josh Shipp, then looks at foru reasonable and qualified candidates to replace Reggie Theus at New Mexico State. Reggie Reggie! (The TV Coach is in!)

  • After flirting the whole spring with potential NBA suitors, Reggie Theus has secured an NBA head coaching job with the Sacramento Kings of the Maloufs and Cowbells. And why not? He is more qualified than a lot of the current NBA coaches. He had a long successful career as an NBA player, he played a coach on TV so he has all the acting and dramatic skills needed to handle media, players, zebras and owners, he managed to revitalize New Mexico State, and he had a stint as an assistant under Rick Pitino.
  • Coverage of the Reggie Theus coaching change by Dick Hoops Weiss and and and and
  • Random Factoid: Summer officially starts tomorrow.
  • A thank you for the link to this blog goes to Nick's 2 Cents blog.
  • Kudos to Kevin Durant for thinking about the kids out there. According to Dick Hoops Weiss part of Durant's shoe contract negotiations include the price of his shoe, Durant wants it to be affordable. Not as cheap as Starbury's but $40-$70 is much cheaper than $140. Dick also has updates on the NBA Draft. Bookmark his blog as he is always a valuable source of news and tidbits.
  • Xs and Os: Billy Gillispie's defense at A Sea of Blue, and his offense.
  • Sad news for Texan forward Gary Johnson, a medical condition detected during a routine physical at UT-Austin will keep him out of action at least for this year according to Goodman's blog
  • Goodman also talks about Romar's Huskies reloading, Reggie Theus, and Kentucky beating Florida and Duke for 2010 Dakotah Euton.

  • Don't take this lightly. Lighty of Ohio State gets in trouble with a BB gun.
  • A round-up of the latest news at March Madness All Season at CHN. CHN is College Hoops Net.
  • Yahoo Sports carriers a Rivals story on the most likely players to improve significantly. This is worth re-reading again and bookmarking it before the new season starts.
  • College Hoops on TV? I kid you not. Of course the games are repeats, and most of the documentaries are repeats, but if you are a hoops fan-addict (not to be confused with fan-anatic), then take a look at the massive tv schedule for the next few days. Extensive TV NBA Draft coverage is included as a bonus :-) Also check the tv schedule for recruiting-related programming such as repeats of state high school championship finals. Some of the players featured include UCLA-bound Kevin Love, and Kentucky-bound AJ Stewart, although Stewart was in foul-trouble in the Florida 2A final.

    Latest update from ESPN News

Staying in the NBA draft: The deadline to withdraw has passed! Georgetown's Jeff Green is staying in the NBA draft (very likely lottery pick), as well as Washington's Spencer Hawes (very likely lottery pick)... 420-friendly JamesOff Curry remains in the NBA draft but without an agent because he thinks he has a promise to be picked at #49 by the Chicago Bulls. Maybe he has had enough of the Suttons scowls (and who can blame him?). If he is undrafted, he can return to Ok State (but hopefully without the Randolph Morris drama)

Returning to college: Surprising many people is that Cal's injured DeVon Hardin is returning to Cal for a chance to become a lottery pick in the 2008 draft. He did not want to be just a top 25 pick this year... Also staying in school is mini-me-iverson, Virginia's sean singletary... Marcellus Kemp returns for his 6th year at Nevada... Dominic James returns (along with everybody else at Marquette), placing a bid for a top 4 finish in the Big (Y)east next year.

  • Monday Morning Point Guard

  • Dick Vitale fans don't forget to tune-in or record Mike and Mike every Monday (going from Sunday night to Monday morning). Vitale calls-in for a segment around 420am PT / 720am ET. Whose idea was to chose 4:20? Vitale has been spending too much time on campus :-)
  • Lots of updates at the highly informative Truth about Duke website. Bookmark it now!
  • Chat with ESPN's Andy Katz at 4pm ET/1pm PT... Speaking of Chatty Andy, his latest "Insider" blog talks about Reggie "TV coach" Theus waiting to hear from the Malouf Queens (the owners of the Sacramento Queens/Kings)...
  • And speaking of which, while a New Mexico State opening will not create a major spin of the coaching carousel, the NBA hiring of a high profile "BCS" coach would (perhaps). Despite the big kerfuffle of Florida/Donovan, the high profile carousel spin would have essentially ended with VCU's Anthony Grant taking over Florida.
  • New weekly feature: Every Monday during the off-season I will be posting the TV schedule (in a separate post) of college basketball related programming, including repeats of games, documentaries, and NBA draft coverage. The TV schedule that is more related to recruiting will be posted at Recruiting Wars. Check that website for the latest recruiting news and updates as well.
  • Gary Parrish tries to stir things up at Georgetown on the contract situation of JT3. Given the recent Billy the Diva Donovan contract saga, perhaps he is onto something?
  • Goodman's blog is loaded with instant updates in this edition of Should I Stay or Should I go? (music provided by the Clash?). As you may have guessed, he is talking about players deciding to stay in the NBA draft or return to college. Today is the last day for players to pull their name out of the NBA Draft hat. Bookmark and check his blog early and often. Latest updates on Jeff Green, Spencer Hawes, Thaddeus Young, Sean Singletary, Dominic "can't shoot" James, Marcellus Kemp of Nevada, Shaun Pruitt, Charles Rhodes, Aaron "Kiwi" Bruce, JamesOff "420" Curry, and DeVon "injury" Hardin... Apart from the NBA, he talks about another surgery for a Kentucky player, a player that has been underrated so far in his career, but before it's all said and done, many people will remember Derrick Jasper.
  • More NBA draft updates at FoxSports, Yahoo Sports, and CBS Sportsline, and at March Madness All Season at CHN (College Hoops Net), and ESPN.
  • Conflicting reports on Cal's oft-injured big man DeVon Hardin. Some sites are saying he is staying some are saying he is going. Only time will tell (that was a song, wasn't it?)
  • A Sea of Blue revisits the Tubby Smith era, including the impact of his son Saul on the squad. Regular listeners of Jim Rome may recall Rome calling him "his daughter" because of his hairstyle. As far as I know this did not result in a Chris/Jim Everett situation however (YouTube video clips of that incident) :)
  • Rival's editor Bob McClellan posts his ready to break out list at Yahoo Sports. I have to say that I agree with all eight of his picks, although I personally hope that Lance Thomas sees the light and transfers back to Jersey, either to Gonzo's Hall (Seton Hall) or Mr Joisey's Rutgers... He also lists the 10 best "improvers" from last season. A good read!

Four days left to eject from the NBA Draft

    NBA Draft 2007 - updates at DraftExpress.com

  • Not just NBA mock drafts, but also NBA draft podcasts (three of them so far) can be found at DraftExpress.com. But the Draft Express cannot be contained in a single continent. They are also reporting live from the 2007 Reebok Eurocamp. Other interesting pages there are who signed with an agent, a recap of the early entry list, and a lot more.
  • The article of most interest from a college basketball perspective with regards to the 2007-2008 season is the list of players who signed with agents, and the ones who are merely testing the waters and expected to pull out before the Monday (yes Monday) deadline.
  • So who is gone for good because they signed with an agent? Let's recap by class:
  • Greg Oden, Kevin Durant, Brandan Wright (freshmen)
  • Julian Wright, Josh Mecha-Roberts de Puke (Josh McRoberts), Rodney Stuckey (if you missed watching him this year, you missed out!), Marcus "moody blues" Williams, Wilson Chandler (should have waited for another year?) (sophomores)
  • Joakim Noah, Corey Brewer, Al Horford, Taurean Green (Florida juniors and back-to-back NCAA tournament champions)
  • Aaron Afflalo (can't blame him for escaping the UCLA grind), Nick Young, Gabe Pruitt, Dominic McGuire (Hello NBDL and Belgian league), Glen "Big Baby" Davis, Sean "420" shot-blocking Williams (juniors)
  • Most of the decisions made so far to sign with agents were of Vulcan nature, which is a welcome surprise because this is a very difficult decision and it's very hard to resist the temptation to go pro. Kudos to all the players, their families, coaches, handlers, NBA advisors, and such for making facilitating these decisions.

Transferology - a couple of websites have compiled long lists of transfers!
  • The most comprehensive is at Goodman's blog
  • Also keeping track of transfers is Rivals.com

  • Speaking of transfers, Magnum Rolle makes a decision where to transfer according to the Hodge Repor(t) at CSTV. As always with these type of things, there's more to the story than meets the eye. Find out the real reasons at the Hodge Report.
  • HoopsCoach at Wordpress has found a new assistant but he is not carrying Gatorade around. He is carrying something even better, although it does not have the hydrating properties of Gatorade. Rather the opposite :-) No, it's not beer... He also posts a round-up of recent comments made by college coaches (Tim Floyd, Phil Martelli, Reggie Theus and Pete Carroll)
  • The countdown clock at A Sea of Blue says we are just 120 days before Midnight Madness. The new season is just around the corner!
  • FoxSports's Heroes and Villains segment with Dayn Perry revisits the Elton Brand vs Jennifer "Coach K" Taylor email exchange discussed at A Sea of Blue a couple of days ago
  • TV Guide segment: games with D1 prospects in the next few days (repeats)... Also college basketball related programming, including a one hour NBA draft special at Versus (formerly OLN) and a number of 2006-2007 game repeatss at ESPNU.
  • How is the nation's designer mid-major doing? Find out at GoZags. Why designer mid-major? Because every single game they play is available on national TV (assuming you have access to Fox College Sports or the all-regional-FSN package via satellite).
  • New round-up of news and notes at March Madness All Season at CHN (College Hoops Net)
  • Eastern Washington gets some wine early, Kirk Earlwayne becomes their new head coach. He was an assistant at UNC-Wilmington of the CAA.
  • Speaking of the CAA, you can catch up with the latest CAA news at the CAA Hoops blog.
  • On the injury front, 7-footer Jared Carter of Kentucky re-injured his shoulder
  • In his daily blog teaser Andy Katz says that Kellogg won't be in the NBA draft. Not Clark Kellogg, but former UConn guard Antonio Kellogg, who is now a former San Francisco guard as well as he left the team to go pro. Because of the existing NBA rules he cannot go through the NBA draft and be an NBA free agent, but he can still go pro in the non-NBA controlled leagues, which includes the high-paying European leagues, and just about any country in the world, along with the low-paying leagues in the US (USBL, CBA, etc). So he can still go pro :) Katz also talks about Jaycee Carroll getting ignored by the NBA. Well if your name is JJ Redick and you play for Coach Dirty Rat K, then you are a lottery pick. But if you are the same player but play in a small conferences in a remote region of Utah, well, talent is not enough...
  • Words of Wisdom: I always say keep your cereal in the cereal bowl, don't leave them in the draft ;-)

    Conference Commissioner Carousel

  • The Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg has resigned and he is expected to take a position on the upcoming Big Ten TV network which is scheduled to go live in August 2007. The Big Eleven TV network will be operated by FSN/FCS. I do not know what format it will have, whether it will be just like Fox College Sports, or it will have more in-studio presence like ESPNU... If you don't believe me, the story is at Sportsline. Also Dennis Dodd chimes in. Page 2 of Dodd's story provides a list of candidates to replace him at Big 12 commissioner. The Conference Commissioner Carousel is spinning!. Send your resumes now!
  • As you may recall, the Big 10 conference actually has 11 teams. And the Atlantic 10 has 14 teams, although they really should cut back down to 10 because some of the bottom tier teams of the Atlantic 10 are really at the NEC/MEAC level.
  • An interesting debate, is Memphis a mid-major?. Speaking of Memphis, they plan a four year series with Georgetown. The first game will be on December 22, 2007 a Saturday, so it could be on ESPN, CBS or ABC or FSN.
  • Hate Duke or Kentucky? A Sea of Blue searches the net for an answer to this age old question...

    Mid-week report

  • Every 2007 NCAA College Basketball Tournament game on DVD!
  • Recruiting updates at Recruiting Wars with Pitino and Majerus adding 2008 forwards, mid-majors, Kentucky and more... Speaking of recruiting, A Sea of Blue shares my worries that Coach K may use his polish heritage to grab the jumping jack polish sensation Oleg Czyz.
  • Continued coverage of the NCAA war on bloggers at A Sea of Blue. Quick recap: The NCAA kicked a live blogger out of a game because they thought he violated their copyright by blogging live from a game. Read on for all the details.
  • Goodman blogs on OJ Mayo arriving on the USC campus. The OJ post has generated a lot of discussion among the readers. As expected. He also talks about Izzo getting his MoJo back, and has a feature on Northwestern State. Props to Goodman for giving the mid-majors some love! Yesterday's post at Goodman's talks about the 2007-2008 mascotless Illinois, Nevada's big recruiting get (beating the Thad Matta Express), and big Joseph Jones (JoJo?) returning to Gillispie-less Texas A&M (he had entered his name in the NBA draft).
  • Lots of updates at March Madness All Season over at CHN, including Mecha-Roberts (Josh McRoberts of Puke) signing with an agent, a Florida guard getting in trouble with the law, San Diego gets a new coach, and lots and lots of other stories!
  • Thanks to Iktmmedia.com/UK for the link to this blog!
  • BYU basketball loses a player to ...USC football. The player in question is redshirt tweener (6-5/200) Jordan Cameron, while Wofford gets their point guard Gibson back from the NBA draft.
  • And a quick Coaching Carousel paragraph: The anti-Tark (Lon Kruger) gets a contract extension giving him $5.2 million over 5 years. Welcome to the millionaire coaches club Mr Kruger! Meanwhile UCLA loses assistant Chris Carlson to San Diego, where he replaced Ben Howland soundalike and lookalike Brad Holland as the new head coach... With all these coaches leaving, Ben Howland may be forced to hire a coach who actually coaches offense! ;-)
  • Sportsline has a story on Mecha-Roberts signing with an agent. And that is great news. That means Duke is officially losing Josh McRoberts from the 2007-2008. Although some could argue that he was a case of addition by subtraction.
  • Look who's blogging now here at Blogspot: MC Hammer!
  • Meanwhile Gary Parrish becomes a book reviewer, as he reviews the book "Vertical Leap" by Tennessee senior Dane Bradshaw. Bradshaw had his first book signing at Long's Drugs. Already 6000 books have been sold. Bradshaw's basketball career may continue in Germany. Bruce Pearl writes the foreword for his former power forward as he looks forward to life after college (ha!) The book is available at Amazon for under $14
