Monday Morning Point Guard

  • Dick Vitale fans don't forget to tune-in or record Mike and Mike every Monday (going from Sunday night to Monday morning). Vitale calls-in for a segment around 420am PT / 720am ET. Whose idea was to chose 4:20? Vitale has been spending too much time on campus :-)
  • Lots of updates at the highly informative Truth about Duke website. Bookmark it now!
  • Chat with ESPN's Andy Katz at 4pm ET/1pm PT... Speaking of Chatty Andy, his latest "Insider" blog talks about Reggie "TV coach" Theus waiting to hear from the Malouf Queens (the owners of the Sacramento Queens/Kings)...
  • And speaking of which, while a New Mexico State opening will not create a major spin of the coaching carousel, the NBA hiring of a high profile "BCS" coach would (perhaps). Despite the big kerfuffle of Florida/Donovan, the high profile carousel spin would have essentially ended with VCU's Anthony Grant taking over Florida.
  • New weekly feature: Every Monday during the off-season I will be posting the TV schedule (in a separate post) of college basketball related programming, including repeats of games, documentaries, and NBA draft coverage. The TV schedule that is more related to recruiting will be posted at Recruiting Wars. Check that website for the latest recruiting news and updates as well.
  • Gary Parrish tries to stir things up at Georgetown on the contract situation of JT3. Given the recent Billy the Diva Donovan contract saga, perhaps he is onto something?
  • Goodman's blog is loaded with instant updates in this edition of Should I Stay or Should I go? (music provided by the Clash?). As you may have guessed, he is talking about players deciding to stay in the NBA draft or return to college. Today is the last day for players to pull their name out of the NBA Draft hat. Bookmark and check his blog early and often. Latest updates on Jeff Green, Spencer Hawes, Thaddeus Young, Sean Singletary, Dominic "can't shoot" James, Marcellus Kemp of Nevada, Shaun Pruitt, Charles Rhodes, Aaron "Kiwi" Bruce, JamesOff "420" Curry, and DeVon "injury" Hardin... Apart from the NBA, he talks about another surgery for a Kentucky player, a player that has been underrated so far in his career, but before it's all said and done, many people will remember Derrick Jasper.
  • More NBA draft updates at FoxSports, Yahoo Sports, and CBS Sportsline, and at March Madness All Season at CHN (College Hoops Net), and ESPN.
  • Conflicting reports on Cal's oft-injured big man DeVon Hardin. Some sites are saying he is staying some are saying he is going. Only time will tell (that was a song, wasn't it?)
  • A Sea of Blue revisits the Tubby Smith era, including the impact of his son Saul on the squad. Regular listeners of Jim Rome may recall Rome calling him "his daughter" because of his hairstyle. As far as I know this did not result in a Chris/Jim Everett situation however (YouTube video clips of that incident) :)
  • Rival's editor Bob McClellan posts his ready to break out list at Yahoo Sports. I have to say that I agree with all eight of his picks, although I personally hope that Lance Thomas sees the light and transfers back to Jersey, either to Gonzo's Hall (Seton Hall) or Mr Joisey's Rutgers... He also lists the 10 best "improvers" from last season. A good read!
  • No new news at YocoHoops.com
  • New mock draft at Sportsline.com
  • Good News in College Sports is currently in hiatus, but if you are looking for some inspinrational stories, pay them a visit!
  • Don't miss late night talk radio personality JT the Brick's blog at MSNBC
