If you missed this blog's random thoughts write-up on the 2007-2008 Memphis Tigers, here it is. Next one will be Duke (and I promise it will be biased!)
Also from Goodman, Karl Hobbs looks ahead to the 2007-2008 season, and so does talk-show host/coach Phil Martelli. Goodman also has an update on Northern Iowa and their experimental triangle offense representing USA Basketball in Thailand. Also an update from Virginia Tech where TJ Thompson is trying to become eligible a year earlier (a recent trend). Goodman also informs us that Hank Nichols will be retiring soon.
Billy Taylor (Lehigh head coach) takes over Ball State, amid the Ronnie Thompson controversy. With about two months away from Midnight Madness, Taylor will be facing an uphill battle. The "racially hostile environment" comments made by Ronnie Thompson certainly weight in on Billy Taylor, also an African-American. Among the previous Ball State head coaches? Rick Majerus!
Billy Gillispie on "basketball special teams" by Gary Parrish via A Sea of Blue. Almost an Xs and Os post.
The field for the Jimmy V classic has been set for December 4 at MSG, with the Domers facing off with Huggins-less Kansas State, and the Joe Biden of basketball coaches (Calipari) with Derrick Rose facing OJ Mayo and USC. Mayo and Rose faced off before in the summer circuit and in high-school. This will be a ratings bait for ESPN!
Knight lost, not a game, not a recruit, but his legal battle vs his liability coverage insurance company. The only reason this is really news it's because it involves Bob Knight.
Lots of new previews at CHN since my last post: Cincy (no Huggins), Arizona State (now with Herb Sendek), Loyola Maryland (with a former Gary Williams assistant as h/c), Jim Rome's alma mater (UC Santa Barbie), South Alabama (with new coach), and Boston Collage.
Dick Hoops Weiss talks about the new Ball State coach and ends by reminding us that Duke will open play at the Maui Classic against Princeton. Go Princeton! Go Princeton! Go Princeton!
The George Mason bball blog is "excited" that they are adding a former NFL GM to the university's roster. His claim to fame? Not picking Reggie Bush in the 2006 NFL draft.
Spoiler Alert! The following line will reveal the top two teams of Yahoo Sports top 10 teams since the 64-team NCAA tournament in 1985. Rivals revealed their #2 and #1, with the Dookies of 92 being #2 and Tark the Shark's Running Rebels of 1990 at #1. If only they managed to beat the Dookies again in 1991. I'm sure there are many parallel universes where the Running Rebels won :-) If anyone is reading this from over there, can you please send me a DVD of that game? PLEASE!
